A Downtown on Lake Harris
Downtown Leesburg is a few blocks from Lake Harris, where Venetian Gardens, a park first built in the 1930s as a WPA project, runs along the shore with a pool, walking paths, footbridges to small islands, and Ski Beach. Each spring the downtown fills for Leesburg Bikefest, one of the larger motorcycle rallies in the Southeast. Older homes near downtown sit alongside newer subdivisions further out.
Lakes, Boating, and What to Check
Lake Harris and Lake Griffin are part of the Harris Chain of Lakes, so a waterfront home can come with boat access to a series of connected lakes, and Lake Griffin State Park is just north in Fruitland Park. On the water we check the flood zone, the seawall or shoreline, any dock and its permits, and insurance before an offer. The city runs its own electric, natural gas, and water utilities, so we also confirm who serves the property.
The Villages, 55+ Living, and Commutes
The Villages has been building inside Leesburg's city limits, with more approved south of Florida's Turnpike, and Leesburg also has established 55+ communities such as Plantation at Leesburg, Royal Highlands, and Arlington Ridge. UF Health Leesburg Hospital is in town, and Lake-Sumter State College is based here. The Turnpike heads to Orlando, US 27 runs south to Clermont, and SR 44 reaches I-75.
